Design Technology
The primary focus in Design Technology lessons at St. John’s is to engage, inspire and challenge pupils.
We encourage pupils to use their creativity and imagination to create the 3 P’s- Products for a Person and for a Purpose. Pupils will take into account user’s views and wants, as well as practical considerations for how their product will work. We intend for all children to acquire appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum. We aim to create strong cross-curricular links with other subjects such as Science, Computing, Mathematics and Art. When planning the Design Technology curriculum consideration was also taken to incorporate teaching and learning which would also address the unique challenges facing our children:
- Developing resilience and independence skills
- Exposing children to designers of common products
- Exposing our children to different national and global issues
