Public Sector Equality Duty

We aim to be a community where 'everyone treats others as they want to be treated', we want every to ' let their light shine' and we recognise that for some pupils and their families require extra support to achieve and be successful.

St John's (CE) Primary Academy is required to publish equality information as well as equality objectives which show how we plan to reduce or remove particular inequalities or disadvantages.  This information is reviewed and updated annually.

The Equality Duty supports the academy to have high aspirations for all, through the delivery of learning and the output of pupils achievements. It helps the academy to identify priorities to provide improvement for all, doing so by collate evidence , reviewing the areas of concern and considering the actions required to improve the experience for all pupils and their families. It helps us to focus on what can be done to tackle these issues and to improve outcomes by developing equality objectives:

  • We try to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.
  • We want to make sure that our academy is a safe secure and stimulating place for everyone.
  • We recognise that people have different needs, and we understand that treating people equally does not always involve treating them exactly the same.
  • We recognise that for some pupils extra support is needed to help them to achieve and be successful.
  • We try to make sure that people from different groups are consulted and involved in our decisions, for examples through gaining a wider community voice from all stakeholders.
  • We aim to make sure that no one experiences harassment, less favourable treatment or discrimination because of their age; any disability they may have; their ethnicity, colour or national origin; their gender; their gender identity or reassignment; their marital or civil partnership status; being pregnant or having recently had a baby; their religion or beliefs; their sexual identity and/or orientation.
