Vision and Values

'Shining God's light in all that we do'

At the heart of our vision “Shining God’s light in all that we do” is the belief that we are called to live in and be a part of a community, nurturing strong, loving and respectful relationships with one another. This reflects the example of Jesus, whose life and teachings consistently placed people, compassion, and human connection at the centre of God’s will, so that everyone can flourish, learn and grow together at St John's (CE) Primary Academy.

The theological root of our vision continues to derive from Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This verse reminds us that our faith is not lived in isolation, but in the presence of and for the benefit of others. This is vitally important in a world of technology and a growing faceless world. Therefore, our vision and values support the pupils to shine their light through the Lord’s teaching both at St John’s (CE) Primary Academy and beyond, knowing the importance of community and positive relationships involve treating one another—with kindness, respect, forgiveness, and encouragement.

Human relationships are therefore not just important, but essential to the flourishing of our school community. They embody love, hope, and truth, and allow each child and adult to experience the transforming power of God’s presence at St John’s (CE) Primary Academy school and in their daily life. By valuing one another and living out these relationships in the spirit of Jesus’s teaching, we make our school a place where everyone can grow, belong, and shine.

Our Values that underpin the vision statement are:

  • Love – showing kindness, respect, inclusivity, a love of learning and care for all
  • Hope – looking forward with positivity, aspiration and resilience
  • Truth – being honest, fair, and guided by integrity

These values will continue to underpin our school culture, daily practice, and strategic decision-making.
